| Product Introduction | Dark tea is traditionally used for treating gastrointestinal dysmotility, including dyspepsia, bloating, and constipation. Gastrointestinal dysmotility affects a large proportion of the global population and is associated with high health care costs. The therapeutic effect of dark tea on gastrointestinal dysmotility may be attributed to the acceleration of gastrointestinal transit. Dark tea is also traditionally used for the treatment of enteritis. Dark tea is also showed to protect the kidney and liver, improve the immune function, and regulate the colonic microbiota of Escherichia coli. It was found that Fu brick tea extract ameliorated colitis in mice, which was indicated by diminished diarrhea and rectal bleeding, a shortening of the colon length, an alleviation of the histopathological damages, and the suppression of inflammatory cytokine expression. It was also found that ripe Pu-erh tea extract ameliorated chemical-induced colitis in mice. Furthermore, a fecal microbiota transplantation study showed that the fecal microbiota from Pu-erh tea extract-treated donor mice significantly ameliorated colitis-related symptoms in the recipient mice, such as body weight loss, colonic inflammation, loss of barrier integrity, and gut microbiota dysbiosis. |
